“These new apartments are helping the city’s most vulnerable – putting a roof over their heads and offering the stability and support they need to start a new chapter in their lives.”
“Karis Place will assist those in our community who are at risk of homelessness and need a safe place to stay,” said Lorne Epp, Executive Director of More Than a Roof Housing Society. “This development provides stable supports for people who want to make positive changes in their lives and encourages self-sufficiency and promotes safe, healthy communities.”
Located on Seymour Street adjacent to the Granville Bridge off ramp in the Yaletown area of Vancouver. It consists of 105 single units for homeless and homeless-at-risk individuals.
The ground floor is comprised of extensive amenity space and support services, with handicap accessible units from the 2nd to 6th floor. The tower component has 9 units per floor. All corridors above the base levels and each elevator lobby terminate with glazed openings to provide access to view, natural light and natural ventilation.
The facility’s program and services are designed to help people develop their own support networks and move towards greater independence in the larger community. Tenants have access to programs and services such as day-care, life skills training, support groups, budgeting, conflict resolution, as well as support services for those individuals in the recovery process.
In addition to the commitment to social sustainability the project is LEED Gold certified.
