Covenant House

Covenant House is the main provider of residential and outreach services for the homeless and at-risk youth population that is growing in Vancouver. To meet the emerging need, Covenant House Vancouver required additional program and shelter space.

There are two mid-rise buildings on two opposite sites. The 5-storey is on 1302 Seymour St., and the 10-storey on the larger 1280 Seymour St. site.

“…to ensure that vulnerable young people in our province have access to the supports and services they need to build the life that they deserve — whether that be a safe place to sleep at night, mental-health and substance-use counselling or help finding work or training opportunities.”

NSDA is responsible for the rezoning of the two properties from DD to CD-1 to accommodate for the much needed space. Beyond providing shelter for at-risk youth, a major focus of the Covenant House renewal program is to provide needed support services. These include recreation (gym and fitness), classrooms, spaces such as art and music therapy, kitchen / dining, administration offices, counselling offices, a day program, and a health clinic.

Although separate buildings with different programs, Covenant House Vancouver’s two buildings to have a common design language so that they are easily identifiable as belonging together.

Phase 1 – 1302 Seymour St., is Certified LEED® Gold.
